Recently, we received a call from the EPA regarding five houses in the Chicago area. These houses are approximately 5,000 square feet in size and are being sub-metered and monitored by the EPA to refine and validate their HERS (Home Energy Rating System) program. The EPA was puzzled and was about to learn that R-values alone do not accurately predict real-world performance.
For one of the five houses, an ICF built home, EnergyWise performed the energy analysis and provided a guarantee at $100 per month for heating and cooling. The other four houses were built with standard “energy efficient” construction. The EPA told us that their rating system predicted slightly better performance from the EnergyWise home, but not significantly. What their sub-metering determined surprised them. While the EnergyWise home averaged $100 per month, as we predicted, the other four houses averaged between $500-$600 per month. This was the start of our ongoing discussions with the EPA! Put simply, the EPA wants to know how we do it.
Every new home buyer wants to be confident that their home will perform to the highest energy efficient standards possible, but most settle for whatever their builder gives them. It’s what you don’t see behind the drywall and siding that makes an enormous difference and determines whether you get a tight, energy efficient structure or one that loses far too much of your expensive heating and cooling.
EnergyWise has developed the MOST comprehensive, easy-to-understand construction plan review and modification program available anywhere. Our proprietary software was derived from the experience of NASA thermal consultants on the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs. This unique tool allows us to create a detailed energy analysis report from each building plan we review. The report accurately projects the heating and cooling consumption, comparative savings, and the optimal heating and cooling system sizing for your home or building. Best of all, the energy usage calculations and incredible energy savings are GUARANTEED in writing!
13,524 square foot Tennessee home with HVAC designed by EnergyWise with documented monthly utility costs of only $166!
The HVAC mechanical system of this Tennessee residence was designed by EnergyWise. The exterior walls are ICF (insulated concrete forms) and the roof has spray-applied polyurethane foam insulation.
2,542 square foot Texas home with HVAC designed by EnergyWise guaranteed at just $38 per month for the heating, cooling and hot water bills!
Notice the snow on the roof of this newer home in the historic district of McKinney, Texas.
This is tangible evidence of foam’s superior energy efficiencies and EnergyWise building technologies.
EnergyWise designed the mechanical system of the Hilton Garden Inn in Richardson, Texas that is 86,401 square feet in size. As a result, they are saving over $6,000 per month!
As a new construction project, we implemented the complete EnergyWise program resulting in an energy tax credit of $1.80 per square foot in addition to designing an ultra energy efficient, healthy hotel. Typical hotels of similar footprint in the chain are averaging $9,504 per month in heating and cooling. The EnergyWise guarantee not to exceed is just $3,456, a savings of over $6,000 every month!
